Lynn Loosier, What I Like
Say what you will about the Barbara Steisand version of A Star is Born (just be careful who you say
it to!), in the musical segments it soars. That's because Streisand and director (ostensibly) Frank
Pierson opted to record all the music live on film rather than the usual movie musical
practice of lip synching to prerecorded tracks, which gave this Star a sense of reality (well...)
and immediacy.
